Crossing the Rubicon is the best book that shows how and why 9/11 was perpetrated, focusing on the motive, means and opportunity (as any good homicide investigation does). Groundbreaking analysis of the 9/11 war games used to paralyze the air defenses over New York and Washington. Extensive discussion of the motivation of Peak Oil and how 9/11 was used to provide the pretext for the seizure of the Middle East oil fields.

The main problem with "Rubicon" -- it is a very large, dense book that is probably not the best introduction for those in denial about what happened to the United States. Even though the prose is written very well, it is not an easy read due to the psychological difficulty of the material.

Crossing the Rubicon: Simplifying the case against Dick Cheney by Michael Kane

Ruppert has been subjected to a strange smear campaign on fringe internet websites that have sought to tarnish him with allegations about his alleged psychological state, that he is part of a coverup, and otherwise not worthy of attention by conspiracy theory addicts. These attacks seek to discredit the concept of Peak Oil as a motivation for allowing 9/11 to happen, make grotesque misrepresentations of Ruppert's positions (the most bizarre is the claim that he somehow supports elite plans for rapid depopulation -- the exact opposite of his views), and complain that "Rubicon" doesn't focus on their wild speculation and hoaxes based on blurry images.
These fringe voices do not dare describe the substance of the evidence published in this book - which is a subtle confirmation that the evidence is correct, since if there were major errors someone would provide comprehensive rebuttals. Books that expose major scandals often earn a smear campaign as a response from the conspirators - and the disinformation campaign against it is a textbook example of this behavior.

"Rubicon" and "Timeline" are perhaps the most comprehensive, accurate accounts of what actually happened on 9/11, and why. Rubicon is the best analysis, while Timeline is the best research guide to the details of 9/11.

Richard Clarke, Bush's "Terrorism Czar" and author of "Against All Enemies," used this book as part of his "Terrorism, Security, Intelligence" course he taught at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government (a tacit admission that elements in the Bush administration allowed 9/11 to happen?)

A Post-Election Wrap-Up: Iraq, 9/11, Drugs, Cheney, and Watergate Two

We now have four new books which between them strengthen the case that the Bush-Cheney Administration itself, taken as a whole, was at least partly responsible for the catastrophe of 9/11, not just by negligence but by design. I hope readers will buy and study them: Paul Thompson's The Terror Timeline, David Ray Griffin's The 9 /11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions, Mike Ruppert's Crossing the Rubicon, and Peter Lance's Cover Up. (I'm not impartial on 9/11, after having blurbed the first two books, and being mentioned in the third.)

Each book has its own different merits. Griffin's is the best introduction, Thompson's is the best research guide, Ruppert's is the strongest case against Cheney. Lance's Cover Up, while it says less about Bush and Cheney than the other books, is the best expose of how the 9/11 Commission became a seamless part of an ongoing cover-up, because of the involvement of some of its members and staff in prior pre-9/11 scandals, which a true investigation would have exposed. While his narrative is complex, it reaches to profound malfunctions in America's justice and intelligence establishments.
